Featured Venue: Magnolia Plantation

Updated: May 2, 2022

Culture and history are what defines the magnificent grounds of Magnolia Plantation, with dates going back to the Drayton family in 1676, and 1870 when the family opened the grounds to the public. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens has been named one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens” by Travel + Leisure Magazine, and it’s no surprise that many couples choose Magnolia Plantation and Gardens to tie the knot and celebrate with loved ones.

Serving as one of America’s oldest public gardens, and with over 500 acres of land, Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is a magnificent venue for your wedding reception. During the spring months the gardens are blooming with bright Azaleas, the Southern signature plant of the South Carolina landscape, and stunning blue and purple Wisteria that looks spectacular in pictures. In the summer months the grounds are blooming with Crepe Myrtle, the summer-flowering tree of the South, vibrant hydrangeas, and the iconic magnolias.

Magnolia Plantation offers multiple event spaces, and couples can choose from the Carriage House, the Veranda, the Conservatory, or the Pavilion for their special venue setting. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens makes for a fantastic and memorable event, and we absolutely love the history and beauty of nature this venue has to offer.

In this guide, we feature some of our favorite lighting designs by event spaces to inspire you and help guide you in the right direction when planning your special day.

The Carriage House

Surrounded by Live Oaks, Spanish Moss, and overlooking the Ashley River, The Carriage House can accommodate up to 200 guests. This event space offers the ambiance of timeless charm and the possibilities are endless when it comes to lighting design! Inside The Carriage House, Chandeliers can be hung from exposed beams and decorated with greenery, and the outside lawn can feature tents in which you can reach dazzling new heights with your lighting design and decorations.

We absolutely adore how our hanging Darby Chandelier paired with Café Lights look in this space. Our Darby Chandeliers have smooth lines with a modern lantern-style accent and will beautifully illuminate this setting.

The Veranda

The Veranda is a magnificent setting for an unforgettable wedding reception, featuring the iconic white bridge, the long white bridge lawn which can accommodate up to 250 guests, and the 20 feet wide porch which is perfect for hanging Café Lights to light up the space into the evening hours. You might also consider hanging our Empire Chandeliers in rows to achieve this romantic ambiance and further illuminate the space.

Our beaded, crystal Empire Chandelier is an elegant lighting choice for the beautiful Plantation House Veranda, and we recommend hanging two or more to create this romantic and timeless ambiance.

What better way to set the mood than with Cafe Lighting? Café Lights are a simple and yet elegant lighting choice for this spectacular porch.

The Conservatory

If you are looking for an imitate space, then The Conservatory is the perfect event space for your special day! The Conservatory can accommodate up to 60 guests and the outdoor deck offers views of the red bridge and schoolhouse pond. This romantic and intimate space features cypress trees and tropical gardens, and is sure to leave a lasting impression on your guests.

Our Valentina Chandelier adds the perfect amount of detail to this intimate event space, and works beautifully with the tropical plants that the conservatory has to offer. This lighting design can be further enhanced by adding Café Lights and Up lighting. When guests open the french doors into the outdoor area, this lighting design is sure to highlight the natural features and beauty of Magnolia Plantation.
