With breathtaking waterfront views, intricate historical buildings, and stunning natural landscapes, Charleston is undeniably one of the best destinations for weddings. While many venues offer both indoor and outdoor options for your ceremony and reception, we love the freedom that comes with lighting and decor in outdoor areas. This blog post will help you narrow down what you're looking for in an outdoor venue, by discussing six of our favorite outdoor wedding venues around Charleston, and our favorite ways to transform their magnificent features with lighting and decor.
Boone Hall Plantation boasts various venue options from the front lawn, back lawn, intimate patio, and of course, the Cotton Dock. The Cotton Dock is the perfect rustic venue that offers views of the tidal marsh with plenty of space for outdoor and indoor gatherings. Host your reception dinner inside the Cotton Dock and hold your ceremony on the Dock itself for a variety of views. Some of our favorite decor and lighting designs for the Cotton Dock include draping Café Lights from the wooden beams, covering the ceiling with greenery and our whimsical Hanging Glass Orbs, and hanging a Crystal Chandelier above a rustic wooden bar. Host your wedding on the breathtaking grounds of the historical Legare Waring House. Located in the heart of Charles Towne Landing, among the moss-laden avenue of oaks, crystal lagoons, and gardens, the Legare Waring House is the epitome of Southern charm. Some of our favorite ways to transform this venue are by hanging our Café Lights in unique patterns across the patio or the avenue of oaks for a whimsical look. We also love floating one of our chandelier rentals above your ceremony for a picture-perfect backdrop.
Lowndes Grove is one of Charleston's most beautiful waterfront estates that sits along the oak-lined banks of the Ashley River. The house show's off late 1700's style architecture, with an expansive piazza, grand lawn, and a 700-foot private dock. Some lighting and decor elements that we love to utilize at this venue include Café Lights at the base of the dock that complements the iconic Charleston sunset or hanging a chandelier from the old oak trees for a timeless look. We also recommend hanging our Swings from the oak trees for a fun activity for you and your guests. Not only does this venue offer plenty of space for creative designs, but it's also featured on Netflix's hit show, Outerbanks, as Tanneyhill estate.
Magnolia Plantation is another versatile venue that offers many spaces for your ceremony and reception. With over 500 acres of land, the grounds at Magnolia feature a quaint carriage house, an earthy garden conservatory, a veranda, and even a Pavilion on the banks of the Ashley River. Some of our favorite ways to decorate the spaces at Magnolia Plantation include floating a chandelier over the dock next to the Carriage House, creating a magical ambiance at the Veranda with a canopy of our Fairy Lights, or hanging a few strands of our Café Lights over lounge ares to keep the celebrations going all night long.
The Governor Thomas Bennett House provides endless outdoor options for your special day. Host a cocktail reception on the pizza, a reception on the side lawn, or an intimate dinner in the Crescent Garden. The Crescent Garden is one of our favorite venue spaces for a romantic wedding ceremony in front of the pineapple fountain. One of our favorite lighting designs from the Thomas Bennett House is our custom build featuring warm Edison Bulbs and greenery. You could also opt for a more simple look by hanging one of our Crystal Chandeliers from Café Lights over the stunning oyster tabby.
The William Aiken House is one of the few historic homes in downtown Charleston that has been converted into an event venue. The outdoor area of this venue is our favorite spot to transform with magical lighting and decor. It consists of luxurious private gardens and spacious courtyards with a romantic built-in pergola, a reflection pool, and a magnificent magnolia tree. The options for where you choose to hold your ceremony and reception are endless. We love to float our chandeliers from the pergola for a unique backdrop at your wedding ceremony, and we are obsessed with the way this venue looks when decked out with our Café Lights and greenery.
